The art of being seen: Transparent clothes as the language of confidence

We all remember the famous Carrie Bradshaw’s naked dress from the Sex and the City series. Back then, it felt bold and provocative, but compared to what we see today, that look seems almost modest. Fashion has gone further, and the naked dressing trend has evolved from a shocking statement into one of the most popular elements in almost every summer collection. This is the new language of women’s confidence: the less you cover your body, the more power you have. This is not about being vulgar; this is feminine elegance and self-assurance translated through transparency, owning your presence and not hiding it.
The sheer trend dates back to the 1990s, when minimalism and provocation coexisted on the runways of Calvin Klein and Tom Ford. Transparent fabrics like organza, chiffon, and silk gauze became symbols of a new confidence and quiet boldness. Kate Moss’s silver slip dress from 1993, designed by Liza Bruce, is the piece that defines the era and shows how simplicity can be daring.
This look became one of the turning points in fashion and changed the rules of glamour. Since then, transparency has never really disappeared; it’s reborn every year in different forms, such as lace and tulle layering of the 2010s, or the nude-effect bodysuits of the late 2010s.

Roots of the trend

Earlier this season, we discussed how sheer lace clothes became one of the key trends again; a timeless element reimagined in modern silhouettes. Our take on it was an asymmetrical sheer lace dress in black and white. We talked about how to style this piece in detail in this article.

Sheer clothes in AMIDA

You don’t need to go fully sheer to feel the essence of the trend. What makes transparency interesting is its flexibility; it can be as subtle as you want it. At AMIDA, we see transparency as a form of design clarity. In this article, we’ll discuss our new pieces that stand out for their calm transparency and how to bring these elements into your wardrobe naturally.
Our collection includes the sheer organza shirt and skirt in a muted grey-beige color. The shirt has an oversized silhouette and dropped shoulders that create volume, while the pointed collar and button-down front add structure. The wide cuffs of the piece underline the length of the sleeves, and the elongated back hem strengthens the relaxed shape.
Meanwhile, falling below the knee, the high-rise skirt maintains a balance between openness and elegance.
Both pieces are made from a sheer, lightweight fabric with a subtle sheen; it softly catches the light and reveals the body in motion. The color and the fabric together give the set a second-skin vibe and open many different options for styling. Wearing the sheer trend doesn’t mean showing off; the best you can do is style it smartly and personally.
The easiest but at the same time bravest way to wear the set is without anything else but a black set of underwear. Finish the look with a pair of black kitten heels, a bag, and a belt. We highly recommend keeping the accessories in the same color.

For a more modest look, wear a tonal underlayer beneath the sheer set — for example, a white or ivory slip or a matching top and skirt. Both pieces can also be styled separately; the top works perfectly with high-waisted trousers, and the skirt, on the other hand, pairs beautifully with an oversized blazer or a shirt.
